Annie Brown, born 1999 in Southend, Essex.

Working as an artist since 2016.

Graduating Summer 2026 at Royal College of Art in Battersea, London.

She works in a range of mediums such as acrylic paint, acrylic ink, PVA, house paint, indian ink.

Annie Brown situates herself as a mediator of colours through the multiplicities of the language of painting. Parts rip off of each other, floating out of range. Colours muddy over, becoming far removed from the tangible. The marks act in forces against or in harmony with each other, dealing with movement and magnetism, repellents and dances. Illusion is created through different colours placed alongside each other.

Poetry exists adjacent to the painting, bringing forward rhythm, beat, intensity; an understanding of correspondence. “You are dancing over the subject, meanwhile I am dancing over you.”

Hue, tonality, saturation, and opacity; the surface conditions the expressiveness of each of these. She does not look much further than these facts and has little interest in exploiting painting for extrinsic “issues.” The surface is crucial and she uses a variety of techniques to make best use of the relationship between colour and its facture.

This is soup and not a bit of grey
This is silver and not a bit of grey.
Everything is soup until its not, its burnt.
Everything is burnt until it is silver.
and it is not silver.

It is about the perspective of the soup.
Where are you if the soup is over there?
Does the soup peer back?
Pealing soup away from you has always been difficult.
The spectrum of soup to lasagna
Lasagna holds room for many sequences.
Lasagna is made of many sequences.

It has been lit up in quite a loud way.
Light shines from the left and moves to the front.
We are standing facing it from the front.
The order of appearances shift in my eyeline little by little.
Light shifts and dances to the right, the more I dance to the left.
It is not unreasonable to be too left right now.

Does everything have to have an obvious stopping point?
Does everything have to add up to its correct quantity?
Why does it have to be correct and right.
I think it could be more left, it doesn’t make sense but also kind of does.

Does it make too much sense?
Is it obvious that I stopped it there so that it would make less sense.
Therefore, making it make sense again.

Nick memorised the rooms.
PR will like my room
Thank you Nick.
PR will like your room too.

Stop-point.
Shake wipe
Swallow and hold

Am I framing an object and therefore holding it up?
Holding it up for you to see
I’m so proud, I have chosen hide and see as my communication today, sorry, I meant, show and tell.
But what do I want to tell?
Look, I did this shape, it is kind of part of a world.
But you’re only seeing part of it.
And part of something else too.

Why is there a chair in the toilet?
Someone had a meeting
Someone wanted to put their feet up and shit.
Someone wanted to dry their hair.

Do I make many worlds or just one where the distance is further afield.
Two great gaps.
My favourite tshirt is GAP.

Dec-April 26

How often do you look at me
I look and you flash away
like ripples of being further
further away from the flexibility
and the stretching out
You start off fast
But then you emerge with slowness.

Toppling off something with great height and then slowing down at the bottom.
I am a fizz with sponge like softness, it makes my mouth hurt.

I am hungover, hanging over, leaning on, flacid
Against your upright stability
When I am stable, you can lean on me again.

fizzing out like a flat
coke
swishing
fizzing fuzzy
zing
systems of logic
    furry and cut
broken up bits of a beat

Pure pull in the pool
Light hits bounces thrashes out
It hits out and pushes aside
Shrugging off
Passing through, leaving behind
Singing at the front
curling round like a plastic fish
pealing away like wallpaper
Bulging out like you always do
You will inherit a large sum of money.
You might.

flashes of light
they slide down away

Zesty - lime taste
exciting in the mouth
breaks up mouthfeel.
Wakes up senses.
Particles of Zest.
zesty stomach
zest on tongue
zest at back of throat
sensoral smell
Explosions limes juice
Zingy
Notion of change
-from numb to not numb
Unblended
Transformed to interupt boredom

No sleep, only zest.
A zestful sleep.

Shimmer & shiver
melt & tremble.

Burn through

An event
A number of events.

Picnic in the park

RISING & FALLING

I started building this from the front.
- What do you mean?
You are over there so often
You never come over here

I started building this from the front
But you have always been behind.
Not trailing, but chasing me
Fading in and out
Blurring everytime you get too far.
Crystalising everytime you get too close.
You are so close right now
Get away

I started building this from the front.
But the front is always being replaced.
I am never quite sure if it is funnier to carry on or stop, quit, give up.
I finished building this from the back.

A slippery setting
Walk don’t run
Puddle over
Sink into it.
Don’t pull your arm out
Swish it round.
Let it soak.

I started building this from the front, tucking it out from within.

I started building this from the front
But for some reason, you keep
Stepping forward.

Step back and look around
Smell the roses

Towards me, the air is thicker
harder to breath,
over there you blink quickly
like the air is
just thinner for you
A cloud of ease.
Maybe the cloud is blue
I think that would be an easier cloud to exist within

How many times have you blinked?
Did you even look through the blinks or
did you just exist in that eyes wide shut.

Can you not find your way back.
You are always saying you built this from the front
But I only see it from within.
Because I never left.
You lifted up the front
and crawled back and forth
underneath but you never
stuck around long enough for me.
To find me because I
am here, right behind the front.
Just knock on the front door.

Grab the little bit
Pull it close to the surface
Peal it back
Slowly
Slowly
Slowly
Stop. RIP
              I started building this from
              the front and you stopped
               me in the middle.
You ripped through my logic
It is now broken
sink through my plain-ness
and stick it back together again.

tear and wipe
tear and wipe
Bear and Swipe
Blur the shining
Bear the blinding.
Floating, traipsing behind.

I am the pink
Pink by default doesn’t
She doesn’t what?
She doesn’t take lightly the fact that you’re here.
Your presence isn’t a small thing.
It’s indeterminate of other things.
It is always quite large
Large in comparison to what?
Well I guess
Guess how far the pink
runs before she has to stop.
I don’t want to

I am also the orange
orange doesn’t know how to speak without spitting.
A spring of constant juice
Juice of 12 limes and one lemon
zesty and sour.
the orange holds the zest
Vibrant against most.
I am also zesty.
Not as zesty as me
-It is not a competition
Everything is always a competition
SHUTUP

Thank you for thinking of me
I didn’t know we would have so much.
To decipher between chatter and rumbles.
The form takes shape but never stays quite as frugal.
Allowing bits to escape and coagulate outside.
The outside is always the bit where coagulation happens best.
Darkness never pinpoints, it shadows and triples out,
relinquishing light a force for good.

Do you thicken or do you thin?
Does the chicken walk to the other side everyday?
Do you roll the paper between your fingers?
Or do you sit and think?
This is the slipperiest I have ever felt.
I didn’t know you wouldn’t even try and touch me.
You smell awful to be honest
It has been several days since you were gone.
I missed you.
But I understand.
You cannot always exist adjacent to this current way.
The way of the current climate.

The blue swirls round and round the pink
The pink also swirls round but never interferes too much
Splitting it off coming round to the top and out
You might come back in but I might not let you
You always try and come round uninvited and always think
I will like it but I never actually do.

Pink: Stop spiralling round me, I am becoming dizzy
Blue: I am dancing.
Pink: Well stop and just sit
Blue: You alwaysn want to silence me. It is boring.
Pink: I am not boring, just settled.
Blue: When the dust settles, I like to blow on it.
Pink: Why?
Blue: Because I prefer when the air is thick, when I can feel the texture of the particles and the smooth sliding I feel when I go faster through the air.
Pink: Well, what does it feel like to sit still?
Blue: I haven’t tried it in a while, let me lean on you and I will see.

-They lean together-

Blue: I like it because I am next to you, but I wouldn’t like it if I had to stand alone.
Pink: Well you are always with someone at the moment. Limbo is where you are alone. Have you been?
Blue: No, have you?
Pink: Yes and it started to blur me from the bottom. I got more and more fizzy, more and more loose.
Blue: I wouldn’t like that, why did you go?
Pink: Because sometimes you have to go else where for perspective and clarity on your situation.
Blue: there is nothing quite like the power of comparison.
Pink: Yes that is why I should accept and be gracious of your dancing and sliding around me.
You make me look a certain way. I should like that about you. I do.

Rip towards me
Dance through me.
Glide past the wall.
Bend round the last bit.
It is an order that feels messed up.
Messy not in a bad way
It is just an order.
That is an order.
Alright, calm down.

The blue is curvy
The green is sporty
The pink flirts
The yellow giggles
It’s the yellow that always jumps back towards the red
And the red never stops to think.

Maybe I don’t need to be like that.

It’s okay, you do, and that is okay

Your raspy voice cuts through me.

Don’t be hasty.
It is not about being too fast.
It is about waiting for the form to form and then waiting.
what forms might establish
what forms might form together because before, I wouldn’t wait.
I would begin without you.
Some might be left behind.
Some might be left at the front
while you are actually behind.

Sept-Nov 25

The green isnt happy to face towards the pink anymore so he turns away
and she can’t help but pull apart.
She dances over, doubling down, scraping slowly away from herself becoming and sinking away.
Becoming something in herself she doesn’t know or recognise.
The antimagnet of the green and pink has affected everyone.
All vibrations feel like punches.
All punches feel like slow nudges OUT OF IT
out of where?

‘I DO NOT LIKE THE WAY YOU HAVE TURNED AWAY FROM ME!’
‘So darling, transcend yourself and find a way out, you are becoming blurred and fizzy, you once shone.’
‘It isn’t my fault we longer speak and vibrate in harmony.’

Pink finds a red next to her and flashes realisation of what has happened. It is not her but them.
All this time.

Taciturn while shouting
What is being said
I think, way too much
I topple off of little and
fall into a lot
I wave away your intensity
and find you somewhere
inbetween the looseness and
the high definition

If I turn onto you from
the side,
Are you flat and thin as paper?

Are you a dimensional collage

or are you dancing marks
being allowed to have agency
vehicles of your own volition
vibrating away from me

There is nothing about this that is relaxed.
I kidnap your strange sense of self.
The crack of that feeling when you know what’s happening.
It’s not helpful actually.
You coexist next to something
so stacked while you are flat
aggressively flat.
It’s confusing that you exist this way.
Do you not feel tired?

            No! I dance for everyone,
            slinky and shiny
If you can’t see me, it’s not my fault.
You have not adapted your eyes to my every nuance.

My ego doesn’t allow for this OR you I’m afraid, sorry

            I am adjacent!!
            My adjacency continues
            The agency takes form

What kind of green would you like to sit on?
Bear all.
        High frequency
        Far afield
        Shimmering dull
        Fade out of light
        Chasing and flicking
        The doubling down yellow
        Muddying over
        Toplling off of
        Fizzing on top of skin

Does green slide away from you
Green, it harps away all day long

You actually do, harp away all day long

Jimmy Neutron once sat next
to me, and I felt confused.
How do they see through this space?
I thought my hair was smooth
but the speed of life.
I am on the fringes

        Plastic illusions in my ego

Chase the green
Rip it out

     Glaze over the path through

Bounce through
      and stick yourself on top

Interrupt me
     disrupt me
           harmonise straight past me

Slither the green on top.

My alternate green
   Reality sits adjacent
Awkard and harmonious
Do you find me here?
              sitting peacefully or
        maybe squidging it all together

Is there a kind of confidence to
this erratic green?

Sing together
play together
interrupt the talk
sing through it
play over it
play through the
Use the expressss

Where did it go now?

A puddle over my perceived
The vision might have been ripped into
Is this a kind of flowing or
running through

            Swinging out of the peripherary
       Illusions of swinging back in.
hopes of diving and throwing
I hope you dive and throw

I slide
I tear
I rip off of another
I magnet towards

see it over there

Multitudes of multiplicities allow

Push and peal me away

I slide through and over

You are dancing over the subject

Meanwhile I am dancing over you
